AS AN ORGANISATION GROWS, it becomes more difficult for it to differentiate its offering. Economic pressures and the complexities of scaling up force it to gravitate towards the sale of average products at average prices with a one size fits all policy. This was an approach Vox Telepreneur wanted to avoid at all costs.

In addition, the market was becoming more complex, converging with voice, with more products and more competitors. Deflationary pressures were starting to become a reality and it won't be long before the price of broadband reduces significantly.

CHANGING THE COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

One option for Vox Telepreneur was to change this competitive landscape by adding sectors that competitors had not entered and would have difficulty competing in. Vox started by ensuring that it had good quality products at competitive prices, but it also offered customers an option to subsidise their costs, earn part-time income and build a full-time business. This, Vox believed, would build a community that, together with Vox's backing, would produce a strong and effective telco.

32 • ENTREPRENEUR'S HOT LIST NOVEMBER 200B

Vox Telepreneur was born. First, the business designed a compensation structure to give customers a good product with rebates. Then, it rewarded resellers (Telepreneurs) with a compensation structure that allowed for reseller commission of up to 30% of the gross profit generated from sales. The next step was to extend this to a network marketing concept to allow someone to build an organisation and earn small amounts of commission from multiple people to reward referral sales. As Rockefeller said: "I would ra ther earn 1 % off a hundred people's efforts than 100% of my own efforts".

Overall, the concept is growing beyond Vox's expectations. It has been well received and the team is dedicated and flexible, which has enabled them to handle curved balls as they are thrown.

FULL RANGE OF PRODUCTS SET FOR 200.9

The biggest winners are the SME PBX, which is taking off, and the Vox ADSL Phone. Other ISP products are moving along and the small mobile offering is starting to sell in numbers. Vox will launch a full range of mobile products in 2009 aimed at the entire market, starting at consumers in the 'Rl 000 a month' bracket, right up to more sophisticated business users.

Vox is designing packages that are competitive but with sufficient margins to payout rebates and commissions, with lenient credit policies to ensure everyone can take advantage of what the business has to offer.

Vox believes that the Vox Telepreneur concept will enable it to gain significant market share in the telecommunications space.
